We are in Vanuatu

It was a great trip from Auckland to Vanuatu. Easy flight and quick transfer to Coral Motel.

Now we are in our motel room. It has air conditioning and a kitchen so we are able to be very comfortable. It has rained off and on, but everyone just gets on with life in the rain because it doesn't make you cold. Jan and I just walked about 3km from town to the cruise ship at the wharf. Port Vila is hilly so we are getting more of a workout than we expected. The busses are like Nairobi's matatus...small vans who stop and drop just about anywhere. Drivers drive on the right and steering wheel is on the left of the car...as in the US. But that is where the similarity ends. There are no rules of the road...just get into the traffic when you can! So we are not eager to try driving yet.

The food is expensive except for fruit and vegetables. The locals are just beginning to use chickens for laying, so eggs are mostly imported. I like the yogurt made here. Jan says the Tusker beer isn't bad. And the local beef is yummy. So not a bad diet. I just finished a tin of mango juice and have a half of a papaya to finish for tea. Definitely, I am losing weight.
