An important aspect of preparing for an adventure is making sure vaccinations are up to date. But most people don't have to go this far with it!We had our less exotic tetanus and flu shots. The doctor suggested that both Jan and I get Hepatitis A vaccine for our protection while in Vanuatu. Jan got hers without a thought, but an inspection of the ingredients in the vaccine made us all a bit nervous about my possible reaction. (Yes, you should see the list of chemicals I am allergic to.) So it was arranged for me to go to the nearest small hospital, a 45 minute drive, and be injected under supervision with proper resuscitation equipment at hand. Here I am at the hospital where I got my Hep A vaccine and didn't need emergency intervention!!! I got a bit puffy in the face and a bit wheezy which is just what I expected. Look, I'm even hooked up to the monitors! An hour later we were on the way home. New Zealand health care works well for me.
