And We're Off...sort of

This is the official blog of Kate and Jan's traveling adventure.

You could say the adventure began when we found 'just the right' renters last week. Hans and Claire will look after our home as if it was their own! We are so pleased we crossed paths. That is literally what happened. Having seen the rental sign, they walked up the drive to talk to Jan, who was sorting stuff in the garage. So they looked through our house, loved it, and contacted the agent the next day. Their plans and ours shifted so that the rental could work. We delayed our leaving and they brought their arrival forward. Great beginning.

Our new departure date is 28 May with arrival in Vanuatu the 30th of May. We have reserved a unit in an apartment style motel in Port Vila, the capital. We will be there until Immigration invites Jan to an interview and medical exam in Auckland. The process of getting her a green card is slow and laborious. Rest assured, Americans, it would be difficult for a terrorist to get through the paperwork, let alone the officialdom. But it's the only way to get Jan  into the US long term, so we are following all the rules. My guestimate is that we will be in WA state by August. However, the reality could be off either way by months!

We still plan to be somewhere down south for the winter months, but we have no plan for achieving that goal. Isn't that what makes it an adventure? Now I had better start adventuring through the bookcase determining what we keep and what we give away.
